A whopping 16th entry for Talisker in the annual Diageo Special Releases, this time the oldest bottling offered by the distillery so far a 35 year old whisky, distilled in 1977 and matured in a mixture of refill American and European oak casks.
Nose:
Rosewood, ginger, lavender and camphor, a great aromatic spice spectrum that immediately makes you think of incense, oily, minimal fine smoke from a very distant campfire, wet grass, sweet honey and vineyard peach, truffle, cinnamon, marzipan, eucalyptus and gingerbread.
Taste:
Beautiful pepper is now directly in front, albeit not as strong as in younger Taliskers, nutmeg, cinnamon, camphor, lavender, melon, apricot, vineyard peach, grapefruit, lychee, salt, light tobacco, raisin, mango, fresh cocoa beans, Rosewood, fine oak, later also pineapple, rosemary, caraway, all pretty strong for the age, but round it.
Finish:
Malt, baker, candied ginger, all spices with oily sweetness once again laid out great, as in honey, touch of salt, very long.
