COLEBURN
This is one of those long unloved closed Speyside distilleries of which few bottlings have been produced over the years. Some are a little unusual which has led to the whisky not having the greatest of reputations. There are, however, some terrific expressions from the early 1970s by G&M and the 1980s by The Whisky Agency. At its best the whisky is mineral, oily, waxy and bold with white fruitty elegance and a nice farmy edge to it. Old style and not always easy but something all serious whisky lovers should try. The Rare Malts 1979 is also an underrated and exceptionally lovely expression of this make.
